HAAD Minimum Requirement for Participation in Continuing Education in Abu Dhabi

HA-AD Continuing Education minimum requirements is mandatory for Physicians, Dentists, Pharmacists and Nurses in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi as of January 2007

Other members of the health care team (e.g., dieticians, physiotherapists, etc.) will be included in a later stage of the program.

The minimum requirements for participation in HAAD Continuing Education are linked to the revalidation of licensure effective with the following dates:

These requirements will be applicable to physicians, dentists, nurses and pharmacists working in all public and private health care facilities in Abu Dhabi Emirate.

In addition to the minimum requirements, additional standards must be met concerning the proportion of hours for accredited educational activities and for activities specifically related to one’s profession or, one’s specialty area in a profession. These are outlined in the table below.

Minimum of 10 hours per year (of the 25 hours from Category 1) must be in the specialty of the physician / dentist
Category 2 – Unaccredited Maximum of 25 hours out of 50 per year
Nurse*
20 hours
Category 1 – Accredited Minimum of 10 hours out of 20 per year
All 20 hours must be relevant to the practice of nursing and preferably to the nurse’s area of specialty
Category 2 – Unaccredited Maximum of 10 hours out of 20 per year
Pharmacist
20 hours
Category 1 – Accredited Minimum of 10 hours out of 20 per year Category 2 – Unaccredited Maximum of 10 hours out of 20 per year
All 20 hours must be relevant to the practice of pharmacy

 * Nurse includes: registered nurses, practical nurses, registered midwives, registered psychiatric nurses whether in practice, education or administrative roles.
** Physicians and dentists will have their specialty indicated on their license.

All of the above professionals who are working in either public or private health care facilities will be licensed. Each physician / dentist will have his / her specialty identified on the HAAD-issued license. The CE requirements for each individual’s respective profession will need to be fulfilled when “re-validating” (i.e., renewing after initial licensure) their license according to whatever cycle is established by HAAD for licensing of that profession

There are two "sections" into which professionals could categorize their participation in CE, Category 1 and Category 2.
