The ‘Eco-Enterprise Innovation ‘award was presented to HAAD in recognition of HAAD’s use of Oracle products and solutions as part of its move to take an environmental lead reduce its costs and improve business efficiencies by using ‘green’ businesses practices. The award was presented by Jeff Henley, Chairman of Oracle Corporation to Ali Mohamed Al Ali, IT Manager at HAAD during Oracle OpenWorld 2012, held in San Francisco, U.S.A. Over 40,000 delegates from all over the world attended this event.
HAAD IT undertook several environmental initiatives with the objective of minimizing energy and paper consumption. Through these initiatives HAAD endeavored to create a paperless environment saving over 750,000 pages of paper per year, and reducing electricity consumption thereby contributing to reducing the company’s carbon footprint significantly.
The IT initiatives that contributed to making HAAD a greener organization and increased employee and organization productivity focused on four main areas:
- Streamlining and Automating process
- Instilling electronic self- service in transactional areas like Procurement, HR & finance
- Replacing paper based services, forms and reports with automated electronic services. The E-Attestation of sick leave, undertaken throughout the emirate has resulted in huge saving of paper and resources.
- Reduce system downtime by using the latest monitoring technology and a continuous improvement program
The criteria for the awards included the reduction of costs associated with the value chain; creation of value by process automation and creation of automated self-service in most operation areas; design of a fully integrated enterprise resource management solution comprising Oracle E-Business Suite (EBS), CRM, Supply chain, Oracle Business Intelligence Suite and the use of IT to provide automated electronic solutions integrated with the Oracle ERP.
According to Mr. Ali Mohamed Al Ali IT Manager, HAAD, “IT is a key enabler in our attempts to have a low carbon footprint. The implementation of Oracle solutions helped in streamlining the procurement and sourcing, human resource management systems, time and attendance systems and reimbursement processes using online i-Supplier portal for supplier interactions, electronic purchase orders approvals, electronic invoicing, and tracking reports to achieve a paperless environment.”
The online workflow approval for requisitions, purchase orders and internal memos has saved the unnecessary flow of papers within the company. HAAD also implemented an online Oracle Self-Service Human Resource software module (SSHR), automating HR functions and giving employees access to functionality such as updates on leave records and contact details, online requests generation & approvals; thus optimizing the company’s time and resources. With the implementation of Oracle SSHR online services, HAAD has saved 800 man-hours and 25,000 sheets of printing paper per annum.
Receiving the award, Ali Mohamed Ali, said, “This is truly a remarkable win for HAAD, which is a fitting testament to its strong and continued commitment towards sustainability and innovation. HAAD takes pride in being recognized for this award from Oracle and places HAAD and the Middle East region on the map for its sustainable IT practices, innovation and move towards adopting more ‘green’ initiatives.
