Department of Health Showcases Healthcare Innovations from Across the World at GITEX Technology Week

Abu Dhabi, UAE, 14 October 2018— Department of Health—Abu Dhabi (DoH), the regulator of the healthcare sector in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, is participating at the GITEX Technology Week 2018 which is kicked off today in Dubai World Trade Centre. DoH will showcase a number of healthcare innovations that have the potential to transform both the local and global healthcare sector.

DoH will be showcasing some of the latest inventions has deployed in order to enhance the healthcare sector, in addition to a number of other innovative research projects designed to further improve patient experience and help take the healthcare sector to new heights. DoH will have two stands at the exhibition, one alongside Abu Dhabi Digital Government and the second under the GITEX Future Stars Pavilion.

This year, DoH is the official sponsor for healthcare innovation at the GITEX Future Stars Pavilion, where a number of projects and innovation initiatives, including some from the winners of Healthcare Technology Innovation Pioneer scheme, will be demonstrated.
The projects that will be showcased at the GITEX Future Stars Pavilion will include an innovative device that detects Eustachian tube dysfunctions and a smart phone app that is designed to connect physicians with mental health patients who are undergoing treatment for illnesses such as depression and anxiety. In addition, the stand will exhibit an advanced technology for corneal transplantation and a new tracking device that enables hospitals to locate medical equipment, health professionals or patients within seconds as a measure to help improve patient safety and outcomes.

Participants at the DoH pavilion will also showcase a mobile software-based cardiac monitoring unit that makes use of piezoelectric signals generated by a piezoelectric material placed on the chest through a wireless communication system. Additionally, participants will demonstrate a new multidrug resistant bacteria antibiotic that fights one of the top 12 pathogens causing high morbidity and mortality worldwide, according to the World Health Organisation.

H.E Sheikh Abdulla Bin Mohamed Al Hamed, Chairman of DoH said: “Through this year’s participation, DoH is aiming to contribute to the establishment of an innovation agenda for healthcare in Abu Dhabi by promoting entrepreneurship, invention and creative thinking. DOH is keen to attract top innovators and entrepreneurs from across the UAE to demonstrate their ideas and inventions to global investors who can provide the necessary support and funding to accelerate their development.”

Alongside these innovations, DoH will demonstrate its latest digital projects and initiatives which have had a remarkable impact in enhancing patient experience, opening new gateways for the sector’s development by attacting investment as well as making a significant role in positioning Abu Dhabi as a leading medical tourism destination. Some of these latest technologies include a tool for mapping health facilities, the JAWDA healthcare quality data system, emergency response system and interactive panel through Document System.
